BNY Mellon Wealth Management has hired veteran banker Lisa Simington to manage the company's private banking business for the Southeast U.S., covering Florida and Georgia. Simington, a longtime Atlanta resident now based in Tampa, Fla., will report to Tom Roberts, managing director in the Private Banking Group headed by National Director Bill Sappington.
"Lisa's considerable experience and talent allow us to press on with our commitment to expanding our private banking and wealth management operations throughout Georgia and Florida," said Sappington. "BNY Mellon Wealth Management expects to add as many as nine additional private banking staff in coming months."
Since August 2009, the wealth manager has hired a half dozen people for a range of positions in its Southeast region and several more across the U.S. Furthermore, as a sign of Georgia's growing importance to the company's strategic growth, last fall BNY Mellon created a new position--chairman for the state of Georgia-which was filled by senior portfolio manager Dana Halberg.
Simington has more than 20 years of experience in banking and financial services and worked with Wachovia Bank in both Florida and Georgia for nearly 18 years. Her last position at Wachovia was as wealth management director for the state of Georgia. Additionally, Simington worked with Goldman Sachs in Atlanta. Her team was responsible for serving high ultra high net worth clients. Most recently Simington was managing director of wealth and investment management for SunTrust Bank in Tampa.
Simington grew up in Florida, earned a Bachelors of Science in Finance from the University of Florida and is a certified financial planner.
Among many community groups she has supported, Simington was active in Atlanta as an advisory board member for Teach for America and Children's Healthcare. She also supported the Woodruff Arts Center and the United Way and is an alumna of both Leadership Atlanta and Leadership Tampa Bay. She lives in Tampa and has three children.
