Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh serves more than 5,200 women and children each year who are victims of domestic violence. Women's Center & Shelter --which was one of the first six domestic violence programs in the United States -- provides a 24-hour crisis hotline, a confidentially-located 36-bed shelter, ongoing individual sessions and support groups, Children's Counseling and structured children's activities, legal advocacy and Civil Legal representation in the region's courts and medical advocacy in area hospitals. All services are free-of-charge and confidential. The organization also provides school and community education and professional training on the scope and dynamics of domestic violence.
Women's Center & Shelter is honored by BNY Mellon Wealth Management's support of its mission to end intimate partner violence in the lives of women and their children through representation on its Board of Directors and BNY Mellon Wealth Management's financial support of the agency's two main special events. Spring Clothes Out is an annual event hosted by the Shelter for purposes of creating domestic violence awareness and collecting donations of gently-worn business attire for residents who need professional clothing to enter or continue in the business world. BNY Mellon Wealth Management supports the Clothes Out by organizing an employee-sponsored clothing drive, to add to the clothing collected on the night of the event. The Shop to Stop Domestic Violence event is another shelter-hosted event that creates domestic violence awareness in the community and enjoys attendance of more than 500 supporters each year.
